Class Policy on Attendance

• Lectures: I will be recording my lectures. I also post my slides on the website usually the night before, and the recorded audio the same day or day after the lecture. Other lecturers may not record the lecture or it is possible I will forget. You are strongly encouraged to attend all lectures, but it is not required. You will be held accountable for knowing the material for the take-home exams.

• Discussions, Labs, Problem Based Learning (PBLs): As these are intended to be interactive sessions, attendance is mandatory. Unexcused absences  may result in loss of all points for that session (points are indicated above and in the Class Schedule). If you can not attend an interactive session, you must notify the instructor in advance and an accommodations can be made on a case by case basis. If you can not notify the instructor in advance, it is your responsibility to notify the instructor as soon as possible. Failure to provide any notification will be considered an unexcused absence.  Also, most situations can be accommodated, but "I needed to finish an experiment" is not an acceptable excuse. We all need to do work, and time management is an important aspect of your education.

University Code of Academic Conduct

• As students at UC Davis, you are responsible to know and uphold the UC Davis Code of Academic Conduct regarding Honesty, Fairness & Integrity. Please click on the link to learn more. However, I will highlight here just one item of the Code regarding plagiarism.

Plagiarism: Plagiarism is the act of taking someone else's work or idea and presenting it as one's own.  In this course, you will need to search for information from various sources, including the internet. You are expected to summarize this information in your own words. You can, but are not required to, cite sources on your take-home exams. However, copying and pasting text directly from any source is plagiarism and is unacceptable. Cases of plagiarism have been, and will be, referred to the Office of Student Support and Judicial Affairs (https://ossja.ucdavis.edu/). Please ask your instructor if you have questions about appropriate content.

Bottom line, please communicate with your instructor if you have any questions, issues or doubts, and in advance of the event as much as possible.
